Swim 21 Update

Swim 21 - Nationally Recognised    Application - Teaching Level

Swim 21 - Nationally Recognised

Swim21 is the ASA's nationally recognised development programme for swimming in the 21st Century.  These standards will be required for all swimming clubs by 2006.
City of Derby Swimming Club is seeking Swim21 accreditation at Teaching and Skill Development levels.  Swim21 will help swimmers and coaches achieve their full potential and guide the club's priorities.

Application - Teaching Level

We have now submitted our application for Teaching and plan to follow with Skill Development within six months.  We should hear the results in March 2005.

Many of the requirements for Swim21 have existed within CODSC for several years.  The club already follows an agreed Code of Ethics and Policy of Equity for all.  We are reinforcing this by Child Protection training courses for coaches, teachers and volunteers as well as selected people in areas such as Disability Awareness and Equity.  These courses start in the next few weeks.

We will soon introduce logbooks with goals for each swimmer.  We continue to improve communications, through the web site, newsletters and regular meetings to discuss swimming issues.  We encourage you to visit the club's new web site: www.coderby.co.uk, which is becoming increasingly inter-active.

I wish to thank Amanda Harrison and John Lewis on the Swim21 committee, for their hard-work and dedication in support of Swim21.

If you wish to know more please contact a Swim21 committee member, one of the teachers or coaches or a committee member.
We hope everyone will support this initiative and we will keep you informed as we move forward.

Steve Hardy - Swim21 Co-ordinator
