Major Champs:
British Gas ASA Masters and Senior Age Group Championships, 23rd - 25th Oct 2009

City of Derby Swimming Club Masters swimmers achieved great success at the British Gas ASA Masters and Senior Age Groups Championships at Ponds Forge o­n 23rd - 25th Oct 2009, coming away with a total of six gold medals, four silver and 10 bronze.

David Bailey won gold in both the 400m and 800m freestyle events in the mens 40 – 44 age category. Sarah Brandrick, Competing in the ladies 40 - 44 age category, won gold in the 1500m freestyle, silver in the 800m and bronze in both the 400m and 100m freestyle events as well as taking fourth in the 200m freestyle.

Val Thorpe and Pauline Inwood, competing in the ladies 55 – 59 years age category each won gold, silver and bronze. Val won gold in the 1500m freestyle, silver in the 50m and bronze in the 100m freestyle as well as taking fourth place in the 400m freestyle event. Pauline took gold in the 200m backstroke, silver in the 100m backstroke and bronze in the 200m freestyle as well as fourth place in the 100m freestyle event.

Meanwhile Rebecca Ward, Competing in the Ladies 17 – 24 years age category, took gold in the 50m freestyle and bronze in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke as well as fourth place in the 50m butterfly, fifth in the 100m freestyle and seventh in the 100m IM event.

There was silver and bronze for Christine Hawkrigg in the ladies 25 – 29 age category for the 200m and 50m breaststroke respectively. Christine also took fourth in the 100m breaststroke event. Emma Davies, in the 30 – 34 age category took bronze in the 200m butterfly, 200m backstroke and 400m IM events as well as sixth place in the 100m backstroke event.

Also competing were David Butler who took seventh in the 200m IM, 12th in the 100m butterfly and 15th in the 50m butterfly in the mens 25 – 29 age category and Christine Hopson who took 13th in the 50m butterfly in the ladies 17 24 age category.
